- GVP-IO Patch 1.0
- ================

-
- LEGAL
- ~~~~~
-
- This is freeware. Distribute it whatever way you like, but care about
- these rules:
-
- ╖ Don't change anything, especially the Copyright notices must stay
- intact.
-
- ╖ Spread the program in whole (documentation included).
-
- Especially GVP and DTM Germany are allowed to include it with their GVP IO
- Extender.
-
- There's no warranty, use at your own risk. If you feel necessity to donate
- something to the author, just do it.
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Using GVP-IO Patch requires Kickstart 2.04 or higher, and the GVP IO
- Extender board with software version 1.7 installed. It might work with
- other versions, although I didn't test.
-
-
- WHAT IS IT?
- ~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- This program is useful in conjunction with the GVP IO Extender board only.
- The current software (version 1.7) is lacking a nice feature, and contains
- a minor bug. GVP-IO Patch is intended to solve these problems. The new
- (added by this program) functionality of your GVP IO Extender board is:
-
- ╖ CPU load during high speed transfers is decreased considerable.
-
- ╖ Software relying on EOFMODE (such as common Voice Mail software
- for ZyXEL modems) that does not work with GVP IO Extender might
- work now.
-
-
- INSTALLATION
- ~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
- Drag the icon into your SYS:PREFS drawer. The GVP IO Extender software
- must be installed correctly (Binddrivers command in startup-sequence),
- however, it probably already is.
-
-
- USAGE
- ~~~~~
-
- You can start GVP-IO Patch from Shell or Workbench. It will open a window
- with those choices:
-
- IRQ.... This describes after how many bytes received the board
- should issue an Interrupt Request to the computer. The
- FIFO buffer can hold up to 16 bytes - if it is filled up,
- further data will be lost. On the other hand, if
- interrupts occur often (one interrupt per one or very few
- bytes), the CPU is quite busy answering all those requests.
-
- GVP IO Extender software is delivered with this value set
- to 1. An ideal value is around 8, because it reduces CPU
- load during high speed transfers significant, but still
- offers an 8 byte safety margin to not lose any data.
-
- You can choose between 1 and 8.
-
-
- EOF.... The EOFMODE is used by some not very common software
- packages such as many Voice Mail programs for ZyXEL modems.
- The GVP IO Extender software rejects SDCMP_SETPARAMS
- requests with EOFMODE set to ON. This causes some programs
- to fail.
-
- If you set this option to YES, the software described might
- work better with your GVP IO Extender board. Set it to NO
- for default behaviour, although I don't recommend this.
-
- SAVE... Save your changes permanently.
-
- USE.... Save your changes temporarily (until you reboot the Amiga).
-
- CANCEL. Exit the program without patching.
-
- In the menu strip, it'll present those functions:
-
- ABOUT.................. Show information about GVP-IO Patch.
-
- QUIT................... Exit the program without patching.
-
- RESET TO DEFAULTS...... Load default values, just like a brand-new
- GVP IO Extender board comes with.
-
- LAST SAVED............. Re-load the last configuration you saved.
-
- RESTORE................ Restores the settings as they were before
- you began to play around with the gadgets.
-
- If the program can't identify the GVP IO Extender software on disk or in
- memory, it will complain. If it does not, you can be pretty sure it
- patches correctly, even if you use another software version than 1.7 (but
- be careful though).
-
-
- THANKS
- ~~~~~~
-
- Thanks to Ralph Babel (maker of GVP IO Extender software) who explained me
- where to actually patch the software.
